It all started with pattern books....

My mother would get them from her favorite fabric shop and I would make paper dolls! I poured through them to find the perfect little girls that I could turn into the doll by gluing her to cardboard and then finding clothes that fit her well enough to become part of her wardrobe!

My mother made most of my clothes and then gave me the scraps. Those pieces of fabric became clothes for my dolls --definitely crudely made but the start of my sewing journey!

In defiance, I never took "Home Ec" but learned sewing at my mother's knee... miles and miles of stitching on old sheets to learn to make a straight line. She taught me to read a pattern, how to sew a neat hem, the importance of pressing as you go, and so much more. And I never lost the joy of looking through those pattern books!

Fast forward to the early 80s when my children were born. My desire to sew resurfaced and I made tiny baby clothes and cute toddler fashions. Then on to Halloween and school play costumes -- Minnie Mouse just about brought me down with her fur head and yellow felt shoes…

I don't sew much anymore but still love the patterns! This translated into my Etsy shop and now I look for patterns at estate and yard sales, thrift and resale shops. Maybe I'll find one of those big pattern books one of these days and teach my granddaughter the finer points of DIY paper dolls!

You will also see vintage sewing notions, cross stitch charts and crochet patterns in my shop. On the handmade side of my fence, my main loves are crochet and cross stitch. Many of those patterns are from my own collection -- even though I love every one, there's just never enough time to do them all!

Magnolia's Sewing Basket is named for my sweet granddaughter, Magnolia, who likes to wear the dresses that I made for her mother -- I kept the "first day of school" dresses from several years.... it's so much fun to see Noli in them!

Are patterns checked for accuracy?

Yes, if a pattern has been used, each piece is counted to make sure the pattern is complete. Any missing pieces are noted in the description. If it is a multi-size pattern the pieces are checked for the cut size and this is also noted in the description.

If it is uncut and in factory folds, it is not unfolded to count pieces.

Packaging

Items will be securely packed to ensure their safe arrival. Sewing patterns will be placed in a resealable poly bag to protect against moisture and shipped in a bubble envelope.
